Learning Together Learning for Life
Term 6
Welcome Back!
We hope that you have all had a wonderful half term. This year seems to have flown by and we cannot believe we are getting ready for our final term of the academic year. What a fantastic topic we have planned for you :)

My place in the world
​
​
This is our final term of the year and it definitely will be a busy one! Our final topic is 'My place in the World' and we are keen to explore the local area of Paulton and the world around us. Our theme, which is Geography focused, will include learning map skills. We will also be locating the countries of the UK including their capital cities. We will compare the village of Paulton to contrasting areas in the world and think about where these locations are. In science, we will be looking at plants and be exploring the trees and flowers in our environment including opportunities to visit Playscape.
Also this term we will be preparing for our end of year production called 'The Bee Musical' which we are sure you will enjoy- more details to follow. We also recognise that Term 6 can be a difficult time for many and so of course we will be thinking about our transition from Year 1 to Year 2 and Year 2 to Year 3. More information will be shared during the term about these exciting events including move up morning where children visit their new classroom and meet their new teacher.

Homework Tasks and Expectations:

Reading
Please continue to read with your children as much as possible. We recommend short daily reading opportunities and regularly rereading familiar books. We do expect children re-reading the same book three times per week to help to build fluency and develop sight reading skills. It is also important to remember to ask simple questions as you go as this will help children's comprehension. These could be about what has just happened, how a character is feeling, why they choose to do something or what might happen next. It is also important to discuss new vocabulary with children.

Phonics
If your child finds phonics difficult, it is really important that they regularly recap the learnt phonemes from their phonic sessions in school (these will be shared on a regular basis). This helps children overlearn the phonemes and supports them in recognising the phoneme as graphemes which not only supports fluency in reading but is really important for writing too.
